According to GM Dale Tallon, the Kovalev situation should be resolved sometime this week. Kovalev can accept to be sent down to the AHL, accept a buyout or retire.

The slumping and injury-riddled Florida Panthers called up forward Jonathan Rheault from their American Hockey League affiliate in San Antonio on Tuesday.
The Panthers may be active at the trade deadline. It’s believed they won’t be able to sign Stephen Weiss, and there are several teams that will be interested. The Wings have asked about Weiss.
Florida played a defenseman down for much of the game, however, as Mike Weaver left in the first period with a lower body injury that could see him miss substantial time.
"Weaver is going to be out an extended amount of time,'' Dineen said. "It's going to be quite a while by the looks of it.''
Florida Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau, who led all rookies with six goals and totaled nine points in 13 games, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for February.

The Florida Panthers recalled 22 year-old Colby Robak from AHL San Antonio on Saturday; he leads all Rampage defensemen in points with 19 and shots with 82.
Alex Kovalev would get a chance to suit up against the Pens and had some jump. He's still not playing the best defensive hockey but there's no question he plays better when he's had some rest.
Erik Gudbranson looks like the most consistent Florida defenseman outside of maybe Dmitry Kulikov. Gudbranson is hitting everything in sight, and hitting hard, something you're not seeing from the rest of the defensive group on each one of their shifts. Not only is he playing the physical role well, he's not making mistakes very often (if at all) and that's given the blue line some serious stability.
