Panthers center Vincent Trocheck is getting close to returning to the lineup. He’s missed the past 10 games with an ankle injury. He skated on his own before practice yesterday, and took part in a few line rushes before leaving practice early.
“Trocheck’s on schedule; he’s doing well,” coach Gerard Gallant said. “In the near future, he’ll be back. He was one of, if not our best forward before he got hurt. He played great hockey and was a big part of our team. He’s not there right now, but I still like the way our team is playing for the most part."
The combination of hungry youngsters and battle-tested veterans has turned this team into a true contender that has a legitimate chance at playoff success.
This could be the year of the rat.

The Panthers may be without top-four defenseman Erik Gudbranson for the final three games as according to sources he was sent back to South Florida Tuesday for further evaluation after he took an non-penalized head hit in Monday's 4-3 victory over the Maple Leafs. Alex Petrovic took his place in the lineup.
Gudbranson, who missed eight games in early February with a concussion, has played just three games after sitting out another eight games with a foot injury. It's believed the team wants Gudbranson to get further treatment on his foot, so he's ready for the playoffs.
Brian Campbell suited up for his 1,000th NHL game last night. Campbell has now played in 374 straight games since joining the club (and 384 straight overall), breaking Olli Jokinen's club record.
Vincent Trocheck left the game midway through the second period after blocking a shot from Brown. Trocheck is slated to get an MRI today. This is not good news as he will likely miss the rest of the regular season and then some.
