Theodore reiterated his desire to return to the Panthers next season but made it clear he would be fighting for the starting job and wouldn't just accept being Markstrom's backup.
Scott Clemmensen is signed through next season and could return if the Panthers decide not to bring Theodore back.
Winger Kris Versteeg had knee surgery on March 25. Vertseeg says he has been off crutches for the past two weeks but won't be cleared to skate until August.
Versteeg also said he probably won't be ready for the start of the season. A November return, he said, is possible.

Defenseman Mike Weaver continues to work his way back from a knee injury suffered Feb. 28. He skated before Friday's workout and is expected to be back before the season ends. Forward Eric Selleck (concussion) also worked out.
Florida lost three spots in the lineup after trading Jerred Smithson (Edmonton), waiving Mike Santorelli (Winnipeg) and demoting Rallo. Those three will be replaced by Skille, Drew Shore (wrist) and Nick Bjugstad.
The Blue Jackets tried to get Tomas Fleischmann from the Panthers.
The Blue Jackets may have offered one of their 1st round pick and Derek Dorsett for Fleischmann.
Dale Tallon said that Nick Bjustad is on his way to Florida and will play on Saturday.
He’s also confident that he can re-sign Peter Mueller after the season.
Defenseman Jonathan Racine has inked an entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers.
Racine was selected by the Panthers in the third round (87th overall) of the 2011 Entry Draft.
Racine will begin his career in the AHL with the San Antonio Rampage.
The Florida Panthers have agreed to an entry-level contract with forward Nick Bjugstad, the 19th overall selection of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
After finishing his junior season with Minnesota with another disappointment in the Frozen Four, Nick Bjugstad has agreed to an entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers. The 20-year old forward played over 100 games for University of Minnesota, finishing his career as a 0.90 point per game player.
