Panthers defenseman Willie Mitchell suffered his second serious concussion in the past two seasons earlier this year, and after a brief comeback, he shut it down on January 18th. Mitchell is still deciding on whether to attempt another comeback or retire.
The Panthers also added WHL standout standout Dryden Hunt, a 6-foot left wing who has 49 goals and 99 points in 61 games for the Moose Jaw Warriors. Hunt, 20, will be eligible to play for the Panthers’ AHL affiliate in Portland as soon as possible.
Florida Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Panthers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with forward Shawn Thornton.
Just as Panthers center Aleksander Barkov is set to return to the lineup after missing the past six games with a concussion, his linemate, Jonathan Huberdeau, is out indefinitely with a similar injury.
Also marked for a return in Thursday's home game against the Arizona Coyotes is defenseman Erik Gudbranson, who has missed eight games with a concussion. Gudbranson and Barkov participated in a full practice without any limitations Monday at the team's training facility for the first time since being sidelined.
Jonathan Huberdeau (upper-body) left the game after taking a hard check from Jacob Trouba in the first period and did not return. The injury bug's tests to Florida's enviable depth continue.
