Rocco Grimaldi was summoned to see San Antonio coach Tom Rowe on Friday and saw Vinny Trocheck sitting there.
Grimaldi, who plays alongside Drew Shore, knew it wasn't a line meeting.
Then Rowe gave him the news. He was heading to Florida, getting his shot to play in the NHL. Grimaldi didn't believe him.
"I didn't think he was being serious so I just kind of stared at him,'' Grimaldi said after Saturday's optional morning skate in Sunrise. "I didn't smile or say thanks or anything. I just stared at him because I didn't think it was real. Then he said it was real and I could smile. I was real happy. .-.-. I definitely didn't expect it. I was just getting ready to play Rockford. It was definitely a surprise."
"It'll be cool to see everyone again,'' said Grimaldi, who will wear No. 23 for the Panthers. "I've been dreaming about this since I was a kid. This should be fun. It's just a game and I'm looking to do the best I can.''

In addition, the club announced that F Dave Bolland has been placed on injured reserved retroactive to October 17, 2014 and F Brandon Pirri has been placed on injured reserved retroactive to October 30, 2014.

I think the Panthers should ask the NHL for a divisional realignment. And yes, I know that the NHL just realigned the divisions last year. But I’d argue that they hosed both of the Florida teams and also missed an opportunity for better media coverage.
I propose these divisions:
Atlantic:
NY Rangers
New Jersey
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Washington
Carolina
Tampa Bay
Florida
North:
Columbus
Detroit
Buffalo
Toronto
Ottawa
Montreal
Boston
NY Islanders
The benefits (as I see ’em):
Florida & Tampa Bay both get to be back with former division foes Carolina & Washington
Florida & Tampa Bay get to see the Penguins, Flyers, Devils, & Rangers more often – which would presumably draw better than Ottawa & Buffalo for Florida-based teams
Columbus gets to be in the same division as nearby Detroit, gets to be with four of the Original Six, and still gets to visit NYC
NYC gets the benefit of having teams in two different divisions, which can only help for coverage of those teams by the media

Bolland skated before the team Wednesday and then left for Toronto. Bolland was being honored by his junior team in London, Ontario, Wednesday night as they retired his number.
