The Devils held an optional morning skate today in Newark as they awaited Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Rangers.
After staying in a New Jersey hotel today, the team will bus into Manhattan to Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers now stand in the way of a spot in the Stanley Cup finals.
"We're here to win a Stanley Cup. Our season's success or failure isn't based around the New York Rangers or beating the New York Rangers," DeBoer stressed. "It happens they're in our way on our goal to win a Stanley Cup. And we're going to have to get through them to get where we want to go."

As the New Jersey Devils are preparing for the Eastern Conference Final, assistant coach Larry Robinson may have his eye on something further down the line.
Robinson's agent Don Cape told La Presse on Wednesday that the former Canadiens defenceman is open to a possible return to Montreal in some capacity and would be ready to listen to an offer.
"If there's interest on the part of the Canadiens, we will certainly listen," Cape told Richard Labbe of La Presse. "We've offered our services to the Canadiens in the past and they said no each time. I think that Larry would be very interested."
Robinson, who played 17 seasons with the Canadiens and whose No. 19 was retired by the club, is under contract to the Devils until July 1. If interested, the Canadiens would need to ask permission to contact Robinson at least until after the end of the Devils' season.
"It's the first time that I've heard talk about this story, for Larry," Devils GM Lou Lamoriello told reporters on Wednesday "He's still under contract with us and I won't in such speculation now."
Robinson led the Devils to their second Stanley Cup championship as head coach in 2000 and also took them to the Stanley Cup Final the following season. He was also an assistant under Jacques Lemaire when the Devils won the Cup in 1995 before joining the Los Angeles Kings as head coach.

Some Devils players thought today might be a day for an off-ice workout and no practice.
Coach Pete DeBoer had other ideas, skating his players hard and having them skate laps to end the practice.
“I expected not to practice and maybe just have a workout (off-ice) and the next thing you know we had the hardest practice of the year. So they’re keeping us on our toes a little bit,” goalie Martin Brodeur said. “It’s all about getting ourselves ready and accountable every day. I think that’s important. Layoffs are good. You need to rest, but I think you need to stay sharp somehow. We’ll be fine.”
Patrik Elias also thought it was a good idea.
“It was a tough one. It was good. We didn’t expect it, a little tiring at the end, but you need to stay sharp,” Elias said.
DeBoer didn't tip off his players until a team meeting beforehand.
“We had a work day today,” DeBoer said. “I think the guys have to stay in the rhythm of pushing their bodies every other night. That’s the NHL playoffs. We took yesterday off and skated hard today.

How can you say enough about Patrik Elias?
Finished 10th in league scoring this season.
Doing this primarily with Sykora and Zubrus as his wings.
While spending tons of minutes each game being our best penalty killer.
At 35 just had one of the best seasons of his career.
Has been our most consistent player for over a decade.
Was the only bright spot the first half of last season.
Still tied for most OT goals in league history.
Took less money to stay with the team.
Didn't allow the Hepatitis scare to end his career.
Has been completely professional and level headed about having his captaincy stripped by Sutter.
Dumbest thing Sutter ever did.
The night they raise #26 to the rafters is definitely one I will not miss.
Possibly the most underrated player in the entire league.
Congradulations on another great season Patrick!
The 1000 point and 400 goals plateau are within reach.
But more importantly, bring us another cup this year!!!
