Defenseman Erik Karlsson is expected to be available when the Ottawa Senators begin the Stanley Cup Playoffs next week, general manager Pierre Dorion said Friday.
Karlsson, Ottawa's captain, is not expected to play the final two games of the regular season on Saturday and Sunday, which would make three games missed after he injured his right foot Tuesday.
"Most likely Erik will not play until the end of the regular season," Dorion said. "If tomorrow was Game 1 of the playoffs … he would be playing."
Dorion said injured forward Bobby Ryan (upper body) and defenseman Marc Methot (finger) also won't play the final two games of the regular season "but we're very hopeful that they'll be back for the playoffs."
Dorion said forwards Zack Smith and Viktor Stalberg are OK to play, which would put Ottawa close to full strength when the postseason begins.
"That would be the first time in a very long time for the Ottawa Senators that everyone would be available," Dorion said. "I think that just gives [coach Guy Boucher] as many options as possible, and he can play around with his lines and do what he needs to do to field what he thinks would be the best team to help us win in the playoffs."

Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson will not play against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, NESN, RDS, TSN5, NHL.TV) because of a lower-body injury, coach Guy Boucher said.
The Senators (42-27-10) will clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with one point against the Bruins or losses by the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders.
Karlsson, Ottawa's captain, missed games against the Minnesota Wild on March 30 and the Winnipeg Jets on April 1 with a lower-body injury, but returned for a home-and-home series against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday and Tuesday. He leads the Senators with 71 points (17 goals, 54 assists), and is fourth in the NHL in average ice time at 26:50 per game.

DETROIT — Make no mistake, captain Erik Karlsson wants to come back and right the ship to help the Ottawa Senators get to the playoffs.
And, if Karlsson made a miracle recovery overnight he will return, but Ottawa GM Pierre Dorion certainly doesn’t expect to see the club’s top player — and arguably the best defenceman in the world — Monday night against the Detroit Red Wings in the club’s final visit to the Joe Louis Arena.
Karlsson’s injury isn’t considered serious, but it’s likely he’ll miss his third straight game against the Wings. He returned to Ottawa on Friday to get further treatment and there was a hope on the weekend he might be able to fly to Detroit to suit up for this game if the foot healed quickly enough.
“At this point in time, I can’t see (Karlsson joining them Monday),” Dorion said Sunday afternoon. “I don’t want to mislead you on anything. I’ll just say day-to-day and we’ll go from there.”
If it wasn’t challenging enough without Karlsson and defenceman Marc Methot (lacerated finger), it got a whole lot tougher after the club lost defenceman Cody Ceci to what appeared to be a leg injury in the second period of the loss to the Jets.
With the blueline as thin as its ever been, the Senators recalled Ben Harpur from their AHL affiliate in Binghamton and he’ll suit up against the Wings.
“Ben will play (Monday). Cody will be out for a while,” said Dorion
Despite all the injuries, Dorion said everybody needs to keep the faith.
“Overall, we’re still in a pretty good spot,” Dorion said. “We were going to hit a bump at some point in time in the year and unfortunately this bump has come when we’ve seen injuries — we’ve lost our top three defencemen.
“But this team has faced a lot of adversity all year. I think both the coach (Guy) Boucher and I have a lot of faith in this group. I know we’ll pull through. There’s not going to be a season where we’re not going to face a bump on the road and it’s at an unfortunate time but I think it gets us playoff mode earlier than a lot of other teams.”
With only five games left, the Senators still have a little bit of breathing space between them and the Tampa Bay Lightning, but Ottawa needs to find a way to get two points in the first game of this back-to-back series against the Wings or the noise about missing the playoffs completely will only become louder.
At this juncture, the Senators, who were once sitting quite comfortably in a playoff spot, find themselves in a battle for playoff positions with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins. They do control their own destiny as long as they win.
“We were expected to be surrounded the whole year,” winger Mark Stone said after the 4-2 loss in Winnipeg on Saturday. “Coming into the year there was no guarantee that anybody in the league was going to make the playoffs.
“We’re happy where we are, we’re happy with where we’re at in the standings and obviously we want to have a little bit more separation in the standings but we’re comfortable in these tight games, these close games and most of us have played in pressure games. I think for the next five games, simple hockey, help our (defence) and continue to make those simple offensive plays.”

Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson is not playing at the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, ending his consecutive games played streak at 324.
Karlsson was injured blocking a shot in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday.
Karlsson had not missed a game since Feb. 16, 2013, the first game after injuring his Achilles tendon Feb. 13. His streak began April 25, 2013, when he returned from that injury.
He has 68 points (15 goals, 53 assists) in 75 games this season, and leads the NHL with 201 blocked shots.
"We're not going to start coming up with new ways to play because [Karlsson's] not there," Senators coach Guy Boucher said at the morning skate. "We've had good players miss all year and we were able to pull through, so we're going to have to be able to pull through that one."

Abszolút nem értek egyet...sokkal többet mer a kapu mögé menni mint más kapusok és belecsúszik néhány hiba is igen de sokkal több az olyan eset amit sokkal jobban meg tud oldani pont a kapu mögötti játéka miatt mint más kapusok...
Ha most felsorolnád azokat is amikor pont amiatt úsztunk meg nehéz helyzeteket mert a kapu mögé kimert menni sokkal de sokkal hosszabb lenne a lista mint a rossz megoldások...

3-0ig néztem..akkora fölényben játszottunk mint egyetlen meccsen sem eddig a szezonban...és 2-0után pont ez tört meg minket hogy konkrétan a nulláról, a semmiből úgy vezetett a Montreal hogy nekünk kellett volna annyira vagy mégnagyobb különbséggel...
Első harmadban egyszerűen momentumuk sem volt a PP kivételével és erre beakad az egyetlen lövésük, nekünk meg semmi...percekre beszorítottuk őket a harmadukba és tessék...nem csodálom hogy elvette a kedvüket az első majd a második gól...
Szóval abszolút nem igaz hogy nem igyekeztünk...

Right-winger Mark Stone will be missing from the Ottawa Senators’ lineup on a “week to week” basis, general manager Pierre Dorion said Monday.
Stone, who left last Thursday’s game against the Arizona Coyotes with a leg injury, is definitely out for Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Thursday’s contest versus the Chicago Blackhawks and for a home-and-away series against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday and Sunday.
The good news for the Senators is that centre Kyle Turris is expected to return from his bruised finger for the game against Tampa, Dorion said. Turris travelled with the team on last week’s three-game road trip against Dallas, Arizona and Colorado, but didn’t play.
Winger Bobby Ryan, who has missed the past 11 games with a broken finger, could return as soon as Saturday.
There was no update on defenceman Mark Borowiecki, who is also out of the lineup because of an upper-body injury.
