Unlike a year ago, there really isn't any sort of excuse for the Penguins' postseason ending after a single round. Everyone was healthy (relatively speaking). There wasn't over $17 million of salary sitting in the press box. The Penguins had all their weapons at their disposal when they started the playoffs nearly two weeks ago.
Sidney Crosby was going strong and seemingly fully recovered from his concussion. Evgeni Malkin had just won the Art Ross Trophy. Jordan Staal broke out as an even stronger offensive force. Marc-Andre Fleury had easily his most consistent season. Even the always troublesome power play had improved.
The Penguins were set to reclaim the Stanley Cup.
