Prospect Dazzles
The Edmonton Oilers are loaded with forwards who could use an
extra 15 pounds and three or four inches in height, but they have
another one in the pipeline, left-winger Linus Omark, who's
five-foot-nine, weighs 168 pounds, and leads the Swedish Elite League, with 48 points in 47 games and 48 penalty minutes this season.
Omark scored a phenomenal goal last month for Lulea against Timra, coming from the left corner and pushing the puck back between his legs, then lifting a shot under the crossbar as the goalie fell for the fake. It may have been the goal of the year in Sweden.
The 22-year-old just played for the Swedes in an international competition and was their star player.
"I think he could play in the NHL right now. I really do. He really competes," said Oilers assistant general manager Kevin Prendergast, who was in Sweden scouting Omark, who's expected to sign with the Oilers next season. |
