ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER: Dan Wood reports as of Monday afternoon Anaheim Ducks GM Brian Burke said he had no reason to think anything was imminent regarding a potential trade of defenseman Mathieu Schneider. Wood suggests the St. Louis Blues might be interested if young defenseman Erik Johnson is sidelined for an extended period with a knee injury but the Blues would also have to move a player to Anaheim to fit Schneider's salary comfortably under the cap. Wood reports unless something happens soon Schneider will likely have to report to Ducks training camp later this week.
LOS ANGELES TIMES: Helene Elliott reports Schneider is prepared to attend Ducks training camp on Thursday if a trade doesn't happen soon.
SPECTOR'S NOTE: Burke isn't going to tip his hand if a trade is coming as he'd then be bombarded with questions over who he's dealing with. Still, it wouldn't be surprising if Schneider still isn't moved by Thursday as his salary makes him very difficult to move right now, and teams which are interested are undoubtedly insisting Burke take a player in return, which screws up his plans to sign Teemu Selanne with the freed-up cap space created by moving Schneider, unless of course Burke can "flip" that player to another club or perhaps move another roster player. |
