The Ducks signed goaltender John Gibson, a 2011 second-round draft pick, to a three-year entry level contract on Thursday.

Gibson’s contract is a standard two-way deal that will pay him a $92,500 bonus in each of the three seasons. The 18-year-old native of Pittsburgh will have a salary of $70,000 if he is in the minor leagues over than span.

His NHL salary in the contract is $590,000 next season and $695,000 in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

Star collegiate defenseman Justin Schultz made news Thursday but not in the manner that Ducks and their fans were hoping.

Schultz was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award that will honor the top player in NCAA men’s hockey after a stellar junior season for Wisconsin in which he led all blue-liners in scoring with 16 goals and 28 assists in 37 games.
