"I still kind of looked around during the TV timeout and thought I'm playing in the NHL right now," said Bonino, who made his debut with the Ducks in their 3-2 win. "It was a cool feeling. Coming back into the locker room after the first period, I kind of realized where I was."

Bonino got the butterflies out after that opening faceoff and then any remaining nerves he might have had were knocked out by Oilers defenseman Dean Arsene later in the first period on a clean hit in the offensive zone.

"It was a good hit," Bonino said. "I make a drop pass and he finished his hit. Good to get it out of the way early. Woke me up a little. I'd imagined I'd get hit pretty good in one of these games. I'm happy it happened in my first one. I'll go from there and know what to expect."

"He's a skilled player," Carlyle said. "You can see that he knows his way around the rink. The situation we put him in, we tried to play him with our best players. Anytime a kid gets an opportunity to play with that level of player, he should feel fortunate. We feel fortunate he can slide in there and not really look out of place.

"He was not overwhelmed in any situation. That's always a positive for a young player."

Bonino thought he handled himself in his 13 minutes and 39 seconds of ice time, which included some action on the power play.

"It felt good," he said. "Obviously when you play with Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry you can't do too much wrong. They were helpful. I think I made the right play a lot of the time. Just kind of concentrated on moving my feet and keeping up with the pace."
