"His junior team was ridiculous," said Bobby Ryan, Perry's teammate with the Ducks. "I hated playing them."

...

They won the Memorial Cup, which brings champions of all three Canadian junior leagues together, when they beat Rimouski Oceanic, 4-0, in the final.

The Oceanic center was Sidney Crosby. Perry was interested in the tape of that game because he doesn't remember the final 57 minutes, after he was whacked in the head by Eric Neilson. He kept asking teammates what the score was. But he kept playing.

...

"There'd be times when you wouldn't touch the puck for four or five minutes," said Ryan, who played at Owen Sound, "It was extremely frustrating. I think we were the only team that beat them in regulation. They're the best team I ever played against."

...

So how did Perry and Ryan get along back then?

"We hated each other," Ryan said.

Nothing personal.

Perry has just found that a cold heart functions best.

...

"It wasn't until we began playing on a line together that we became friends," Ryan said. "When I was a rookie with the Ducks, he was my roommate. And it was a quiet room.
