The players can't execute the system because either 1. the system is impossible to execute consistently given the current roster and the line changes or 2. they don't believe that by executing it they'll get different results. Since they're the ones on the ice pushing the puck around it's their responsibility. However...

Who sets the system? The coaching staff. Who decides what the player roles and assignments are? The coaching staff. Who is supposed to make adjustments commensurate with the roster and the opponents? The coaching staff.

As 432j is fond of saying you can't work an 80 hour week every week and you underachieve for a boss you dislike.

Since the roster has already been overhauled by half and the problems aren't just the same they're worse, I'm led to believe that the coaching staff is trying to execute a system for a roster it no longer has and it's killing the team. Getzlaf has played an average of 26:07 minutes over the last three games. He, Perry and Niedermayer are gassed. Getzlaf is being double shifted in Koivu's and Carter's absence. You could see it in the Pittsburgh game. They had nothing left to give. Can an injury be far away?

Who set the "win and you're in" (or "you lose and you're out") policy for the goalies? The coaching staff. It's time to give the ball to Giguere and let him carry this team. He makes the big money and has the giant monkey on his back. He's been there before and proved himself up to the task, but playing every so whenever doesn't help a goalie get into any kind of rhythm. If my boss told me "you make a mistake you're demoted" I don't know I'd be able to perform at optimal level. I'd be trying too hard not to make a mistake and end up making a bunch of them. And it shows in JSG and Hiller.

The team isn't doing well Mr. Carlyle so please give it some stability. Stop juggling the lines, they can't get any type of comfort level when after every other shift there are different combos. When Hayward says "Carlyle's trying anything to see if something clicks," I hear "Carlyle is throwing stuff at the wall to see if anything sticks."

No wonder so many passes are out of reach or into the skates! These guys find themselves having to adapt on the fly to new line members constantly! When Koivu got to the Ducks we heard "10 to 15 games to get his chemistry with Selanne." And we accept that as reasonable. Yet Carlyle constantly expects new line combos to perform at optimal level during a game.

I hope Murray or Schulman or Samueli put an end to this farce quickly or the Ducks, their fans, and the financial investment of the Samuelis will be in a world of hurt this season and the next.
